Jesus said: “If you love me, keep my commands” (John 14:15) and one of his commands is ‘no to divorce’.

Since the Catholic Church was founded by Jesus, it teaches what He teaches. It is the right and duty of the Church to remind us what He teaches.

Thus I am flabbergasted, even hurt, at the reaction of many Maltese to what the Church has to say on divorce. The volume of negative comments directed at the Church by many in so-called Christian Malta is phenomenal. Everybody has the right to air their views since this is a democratic country. Thus, according to the Maltese, the movements promoting divorce had every right to say what they thought.

And equally, the movements against divorce. So did the political parties. But the Church… no, for some it couldn’t air its views, as it would be brainwashing people and affecting their decision.
