Inter are still in search of their first win in 2014 when they were held by lowly Chievo to a 1-1 draw in the Serie A last night.

The Nerazzurri had started the new year with successive defeats to Lazio in the Serie A and Udinese in the Coppa Italia and were in desperate need of the three points to boost their European aspirations.

Things look grim for Walter Mazzarri’s team when Alberto Paloschi put Chievo ahead after eight minutes.

But Inter came back strongly and four minutes later they got back on level terms when Yuto Nagatomo turned home a Ricky Alvarez pass.

Nagatomo struck again on 14 minutes but the goal was annulled for an offside position of the Japanese winger.

Inter held most of the possession for the rest of the match but failed to get a winner finish with a point that lifts them on the 32-point mark alongside Verona and ten adrift of third-placed Napoli.

Earlier yesterday, Citadin Eder struck twice as Sampdoria claimed their first win of 2014, beating Udinese 3-0.

In a game which saw three players sent off, including two for the visitors, Eder earned a penalty and converted it in the 16th minute to put the hosts on their way to victory.

Udinese suffered a blow in the 35th minute when Allan Loureiro was shown his second yellow card after a late challenge on Eder, who then struck his second early in the second half.

Samp’s Roberto Soriano was given his marching orders in the 61st minute while Udinese lost their second player in the match when Gabriel Silva picked up his second yellow card eight minutes later.

Daniele Gastaldello wrapped all three points for the hosts by scoring his team’s third three minutes from time.
