Inter head coach Andrea Stramaccioni believes the Nerazzurri can produce an unlikely comeback to overturn Tottenham’s three-goal advantage in the Europa League.

Inter suffered a demoralising 3-0 defeat at White Hart Lane on Thursday, with goals from Gareth Bale, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen ensuring the Italians have it all to do in the second leg of the last-16 encounter.

Stramaccioni’s men did rally from 2-0 down to beat Catania 3-2 in Serie A last weekend, though, and the young tactician is not ruling out a similar revival at the San Siro next week.

He told inter.it: “We’ve got the return leg to play and we have to try and win it. Football’s a funny game and you never know.

“Inter have pulled off similar comebacks in the past, although as I said we really struggled to cope with them physically in the box.

“We tried to stop them getting on the ball between the lines but they still managed to do what they’re good at.

“We’ve shown right from the start that we want to do well in the Europe but unfortunately we went into this match with very few options available to us.

“Still, we must give Tottenham the credit they deserve.”

Italy striker Antonio Cassano featured for Inter in north London, making his first appearance since falling out with his coach in a widely-publicised changing room bust-up.

“There’s nothing to make up, it’s all in the past,” Stramaccioni added.

“He played and got on with his job. Inter just need to concentrate on continuing on their path.”
