Around 140 representatives of businesses and stakeholders in construction discussed opportunities to improve the industry’s sustainability by capitalising on innovative and green practices at Green Build Malta, a national conference and brokerage event organised by the Enterprise Europe Network office within Malta Enterprise.

Almost half of the participants were Italian entrepreneurs who travelled to Malta to discuss potential opportunities with their Maltese counterparts through a series of one-to-one meetings and networking sessions.

Through the Green Build Malta conference, professionals including architects, designers, consultants, entrepreneurs, academics and policymakers were able to discuss a variety of issues such as design, materials and regulation.

Themes included the innovation and cooperation within the green construction industry, opportunities or the lack of them in the construction industry, vocational training within the industry, and project opportunities at a European level including cooperation between Maltese and Italian SMEs.

Discussions focused on low- energy buildings, better efficiency and intelligent use of energy, with a panel discussion addressing these and other issues common to both Malta and Italy.

The event – which also provided a platform where the main players and stakeholders could network, discuss, collaborate and exchange information and experiences – was organised in collaboration with the Building Industry Consultative Council and the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry and with the support of the EEN offices in Sicily.

The Enterprise Europe Network within Malta Enterprise is to organise a series of events aimed at supporting local enterprises develop their business, learn about new opportunities, or finding business partners within specific niches.

Events include the UN Procurement Seminar on November 13 and 14, the Open Innovation and Technology Transfer Training on November 22, and the Business Mission to LEaN 2012 in Genoa between November 29 and 30.
