A maintenance man was yesterday awarded just over €25,000 in damages, 11 years after he was injured in an accident at his workplace.
In a lawsuit filed in 2005 against General Repairs Ltd, Edward Chilton said he fell a height of two metres while doing maintenance work on machinery used to load and unload containers at the Freeport in Birżebbuġa.
He held his employers responsible for the accident, saying they had failed to take the necessary safety precautions.
General Repairs submitted that his claim for damages was exaggerated.
After hearing the reports of the medical experts, Madam Justice Lorraine Schembri Orland concluded that Mr Chilton had suffered a nine per cent permanent disability and awarded him damages amounting to €25,195.14.
