A rise in the prices of restaurant services, garments and cigarettes last month contributed to a 0.1 percentage point increase in the annual rate of inflation when compared to September.

Data released yesterday by the National Statistics Office showed that, in October, the annual inflation rate stood at 0.7 per cent and the 12-month moving average rate was 0.8 per cent.

The NSO noted that lower utility rates kept the cost of living stable as they had a downward impact on inflation.

In a statement the government noted that its efforts to keep the cost of living under control had been successful as fuel prices and utility rates had gone down by nine per cent.
