Inflation in Malta stood at 2.8 per cent last month, 0.6 per cent above the euro-zone average.
In November, the inflation rate in Malta was 3.4 per cent.
According to the EU’s statistics office, Malta’s 12-month average inflation rate in December was 3.2 per cent, substantially higher than the eurozone’s 2.5 per cent.
Eurostat said the lowest inflation rates in the 17-member euro area last month were registered in Greece (0.3 per cent), Sweden (1.1 per cent) and France and Cyprus (both at 1.5 per cent). At 3.6 per cent, Estonia had the highest rate.
The highest components that increased the inflation rate across the eurozone were fuels for transport and electricity followed by higher prices for vegetables, the statistics office said.
On the other hand, communications and household equipment prices were lower.
