The General Workers’ Union transport section has ordered industrial action at St Vincent de Paul. The union complained that employees who were only paid to drive trucks under three tons were being told to handle heavier trucks, which came at a higher grade and compensation. Talks on the matter had been going on since August last year and even though it had been agreed that drivers would be given an allowance for the extra responsibility before they were promoted, nothing had materialised, the union said.

Drivers are being instructed not to drive vehicles over three tons.
