I read with interest the article regarding the warping of the tarmac in Pietà and would like to make a suggestion which will also benefit the environment.
Some time ago, I was watching a very informative television programme aired on an Italian channel and conducted by the well-known investigative journalist Jas Gawronski.
In the programme it was stated that when used vehicle tyres are laid out on the road (or shredded) prior to applying the final layer of tarmac, besides ridding the environment of otherwise harmful tyres, the road traction, grip and stability were increased significantly.
I brought this to the attention of the relevant government department but, to my knowledge, nothing was done about it.
I hope this procedure is tried out for the benefit of one and all.
