Nearly 139,000 visitors stayed at hotels and other tourist establishments in June, a 4.5 per cent rise over the same month last year, the National Statistics Office said.

The total number of guest nights increased by 1.1 per cent, with an average length of stay of 5.7 nights.

Increases in arrivals were noted in all categories of accommodation except for the three-star hotel category, which declined by 7.7 per cent.

The number of nights spent increased in all hotel categories except for four-star, which experienced a drop of 2.2 per cent.

There were 156 active establishments operating in June – two more than last year – and the number of bedrooms and bed-places increased to 17,988 and 38,735 respectively. On average, there were 2.2 beds per room.
