The Italian Military Mission in Malta is celebrating its 40th anniversary. I am proud that in 1974 I was one of the first members of the Malta Pioneer Corps within the Armed Forces of Malta to receive training as a diver.

Our instructors, both at Tigné Barracks and at Manoel Island, were members of the Marina Militare, specifically from Comsubin, the Italian Special Forces.

I take this opportunity to thank the then Commander of the Italian Military Mission in Maltam, Colonel Pellizola, and our instructors and good friends, Elio Rubaldi and Maresciallo Paolo Carli, who were so dedicated and patient with us all.

I will not forget the young men of our unit, the training we underwent together and the underwater work we later performed on various government projects. A special mention goes to Vincent Mizzi who is no longer with us.
