The planning authority has sanctioned illegalities at Ta’ Maġġi Industrial Park and fined the developer €44,000.

On Thursday, the Mepa board approved, with a number of conditions, an application by the developer of the Ta’ Maġġi Industrial Park, situated on the outskirts of Żabbar, to sanction a number of illegalities within the development.

The illegalities were all covered by enforcement notices. In a statement, the planning authority said the board “came down heavily” on the developer and the supervising architects for the illegalities and for not applying for a permit before carrying out the works.

The illegalities will cost the developer over €44,000 in penalties.

A €27,000 fine was imposed after the developer submitted a planning application to regularise a number of breaches, which were not in accordance with the approved plans and permit granted in 2007. These include the addition of 10 workshops and 36 parking spaces within the confines of the park.

The Mepa board also forfeited €17,000, one fifth of the bank guarantee imposed in the 2007 permit related to landscaping works, which are still outstanding.

The board imposed a maximum time limit of six months to carry out all the landscaping works, emphasising the use of mature trees against a new and additional bank guarantee of €50,000.
