I find it strange and hard to believe why politics must be mixed with our local councils. In my opinion, local councils (and their respective councillors) should be elected in order to represent the people of their locality, be of service to their needs and ensure that a good standard of living is being kept in such a locality.

I do not believe that people should be elected representing various political parties; whether you belong to party X or party Y is irrespective. Candidates should contest the elections to serve their fellow residents and be of service to them in the best possible way, without bringing politics into the picture.

Political parties in Malta should be the ones setting the example by encouraging all local residents in each locality to act together as one whole group, which will help to make their voice heard louder in front of local government when making their relevant complaints/proposals.

I encourage all eligible voters to think hard before putting pen to paper, come voting day, by seeing how the respective candidates contesting the election will serve them best in their locality and not by voting according to which political party they belong to.
