Local software companies Icon and Crimsonwing have teamed up to produce a web-tool which would enable lawyers from different member states to seek out training opportunities which would let them familiarise themselves with the legal systems of their European neighbours.

The training web-portal would remedy the lack of information about courses for lawyers and other legal practitioners in a cross-border context. The Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) was awarded a grant from the European Commission to create a European Training Platform (ETP) and subcontracted the IT works.

It is envisaged that the ETP will become available on the Europ-ean Union’s e-Justice portal within two years and thus made available to all legal practitioners in various member states.

The IT platform being built will facilitate information exchange about legal training by centralising information about existing legal courses from recognised training providers throughout Europe.

CCBE represents the bars and law societies of 32 member countries and 12 other associate and observer countries, and through them more than one million European lawyers.
