I refer to Tuesday’s article titled More Board Members’ Emoluments Revealed. In particular, reference is made to the fifth paragraph, which reads as follows:

“At the Institute of Tourism Studies, chairwoman Claire Zammit Xuereb was paid €4,192 a year. Her board members – Joseph Tanti, Edwin Borg, Raphael Cauchi, Marie Louise Mangion, Nadia Theuma and Angele Attard Chetcuti – each received €1,747 a year.”

I categorically deny that I ever received any remuneration as board member at ITS, an appointment I held from April 16, 2010.

In the time that I served as an ITS board member, I was also employed as assistant private secretary to then Minister of Education, Dolores Cristina.

In line with the restrictions imposed by the nature of my employment within the minister’s secretariat at the time, I had been prohibited from receiving any remuneration for my appointment to the ITS board or to any other board, for that matter.

I reiterate that, in light of such restrictions, I was never in receipt of the sum of €1,747 per year (or of any other sum) in relation to my appointment to the ITS board.

I will also be contacting the House of Representatives to ensure the information reported in the said article has not been recorded erroneously in the parliamentary questions’ records.
