The Malta Handball Association (MHA), in conjunction with the International Handball Federation (IHF), SportMalta and Institute of Physical Education & Sport (IPES), recently hosted a seminar for the sport’s match delegates and referees.

Activities, held over four days, served as preparation for the 2016-17 handball season.

Jens Carl Nielsen, from Denmark, was nominated by the IHF as lecturer for the seminar.

He delivered theoretical sessions on various topics, including personal behaviour, progressive punishment, distribution of tasks and game management.

Nielsen also explained in detail the new regulations being implemented this season.

The referees undertook a rules examination and a physical test. They were all assessed and given feedback on a number of matches they whistled during the seminar days.

These matches included the placement and final phase of the men’s and women’s Independence Cup championship and an Under-19 tournament for men which was played over a whole weekend at the Cottonera Sports Complex.

In all, 22 delegates and referees attended the seminar.

The Malta Handball Association said in a statement that similar seminars and courses will be held in future.
