Speakers from China and Germany were among the participants at the fourth edition of the annual workshop on information and communications technology (ICT) organised by the University’s Faculty of ICT last week.

One of the speakers, Jonathan Li from Xiamen University in China, gave a talk about tracking oil spills by radar. Research by Prof. Li and his team uses a technology called Marinesar that looks for dark spots on radar images taken from space. This has made radar detection of oil spills faster, more efficient and accurate.

Staff from the government’s information technology agency MITA gave several talks including details of the agency’s research in the use of social media by the government to provide better public outreach.

This annual event helps the faculty’s staff and students remain up-to-date with the latest ICT research, besides enabling them to network, exchange ideas and create long-lasting ties for future collaborations.
