Schalke 04’s Holland star Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been linked to a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal tipped to sign him during the winter break, according to ex-Oranje striker Erik Meijer.

Meijer, 43, who used to be a client of Huntelaar’s agent Arnold Oosterveer, has told German Sky Sports that the Dutch striker could join the Gunners with his Royal Blues’ contract set to expire at the end of the season.

“According to the information I have, Huntelaar will be gone in the winter. Arsenal are the favourites to land him,” Meijer said as Schalke beat Olympiakos 1-0 on Wednesday to reach the last 16 of the Champions League.

The 29-year-old Huntelaar, the Bundesliga’s top scorer last season, denied an imminent move to the Gunners with the German league set to break for winter at the end of December.

“He obviously knows more than I do. I don’t know anything about it,” he told reporters in Gelsenkrichen.
