More than 100 health professionals will be offering free advice to the public during a public event in Valletta later this month.

Organised by the health authorities for the second year in a row, the awareness raising event will take place on January 21 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. in Merchants Street.

People can check their blood pressure and glucose levels and receive tips on breast monitoring. Other services available will include calculating body mass index, scoliosis, glaucoma screening, stress tests and examinations for skin-related conditions.

The health professional present will give advice on obesity and healthy eating, dental hygiene, physiotherapy, podiatry, sexually-transmitted diseases and mental health.

Members of the public will be able to obtain information about food labelling, nutrition and elderly and community care services.

Heart surgeon Alex Manchè will deliver a lecture on health risks associated with obesity and consultant Reggie Aquilina will conduct a session on how to prevent falls in the elderly.

An aerobics session for elderly persons attending day centres will be held and the public will be invited to take part in a mass Zumba session.
