Parliament yesterday paid tribute to Labour MP Karmenu Vella’s mother, Guzeppa, whose funeral was held on Wednesday.

Leader of the House Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici said Mrs Vella was a generous and altruistic person who worked hard for her family.

Leader of the Opposition Joseph Muscat described her as an exemplary parent adding that Zurrieq residents attended her funeral in a show of thanks and solidarity.

Speaker of the House Michael Frendo also expressed his condolences.

Karmenu Vella thanked the House and proposed that once a year Parliament should show its appreciation to MPs’ parents when they were still alive.
