The House of Representatives yesterday unanimously amended its Standing Orders to provide for the Family Affairs Committee.
This committee would deal with all matters relating to the family, including the appraisal, analysis and monitoring of current and future family legislation and policies, and such other matters relating to the family as may be referred to it by the House or by the Standing Committee on House Business.
It would consist of five members, three from the government side, one of whom shall be nominated as chairman and two from the opposition side. A majority of all the members of the committee shall constitute a quorum. The motion was moved by Family Affairs Minister Dolores Cristina and seconded by opposition whip Joe Mizzi.
Mr Mizzi announced that the opposition members on the committee would be Justyne Caruana and Marie Louise Coleiro Preca.. Later, government whip David Agius said the government members would be Jean Pierre Farrugia (chairman), Jesmond Mugliett and Charló Bonnici.
