With an eye on tying up the league championship, Hotsticks were in no mood to let up in this league encounter against Rabat at the Corradino Hockey Complex on Sunday.

They went on to accomplish their mission in style after sealing victory over modest opponents to make sure of the top position in the championship, breaking Qormi’s ten-year stranglehold on the title.

By the 16th minute they had already taken a 3-0 lead following goals by Jonathan Borg, Silas Plaehn and Shaun Grima.

Before half-time, Steve Portelli added a fourth, taking full advantage of a penalty corner action.

The Hotsticks continued to dominate proceedings as the second half got underway.

Quick goals from Christian Sammut and Ryan Dalli made it 6-0 before Julian Zahra completed Hotsticks’ scoring spree with a double within two minutes.

Qormi made sure of the runners-up position in the league standings after a comfortable 5-2 win over lowly White Hart.

Ramon Chircop effected a superb point-blank save early on but Gareth Dimech was on hand to hook the rebound from above head height and into the net.

Keith Bajada doubled Qormi’s lead and on 21 minutes they were awarded a penalty stroke – Juan Sarcia making no mistake to put his team 3-0 ahead at half-time.

Sarcia grabbed his second and Qormi’s fourth as a result of a penalty corner action soon after the restart.

White Hart started showing progress on their first-half performance and hit back when Paul Torpiano pushed home from close range.

On 62 minutes, White Hart scored their second goal when Alvaro Company Garcia entered the top of the D from the left flank and belted a reverse hit low into the corner of the net.

However, Qormi had the last laugh after being awarded a late penalty corner for Sarcia to notch his hat-trick.
