Hotels and other forms of tourist accommodation enjoyed a 6.7 per cent rise in arrivals during June over the same month last year.

Arrivals by non-residents actually rose 9.4 per cent but the overall increase was dampened by a steep decline of 17.9 per cent in the number of Malta residents who used hotels during that month.

In all, arrivals were reported to have reached 136,715, with non-residents – or tourists – having the lion’s share at 126,432. The four-star hotel category recorded the highest increase to stand at 65,424.

The net occupancy rate of hotels and other establishments was estimated at 69.4 per cent, an increase of 2.8 per cent.
