The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association has backed the action being taken on electricity theft and condemned hotels reported to be among enterprises that benefited from it.

It said it would continue to support law-abiding members and promote the need for a level playing field in the market place.

It also called on the government to continue to pursue restructuring initiatives currently being implemented at Enemalta Corporation.

In another statement, Labour said the government was working to return Enemalta to financial stability, saying these efforts were also recognised by credit rating agency Standard & Poor’s, which raised the corporation’s rating from negative to stable.

It said the government wanted to introduce accountability at the corporation and was uncovering rackets and addressing cases that had been left to gather dust.
