Businessman and chef Anton Dougall has filed another judicial protest complaining at the way a number of bars near his hotel were allegedly flouting the law.

The operators of Bar Native and Haze in Paceville, located directly beneath the hotel, kept playing loud music till the early hours of the morning when they were meant to stop at 1 a.m., he said in the protest.

The amplified music was causing vibrations through the building and guests could not sleep as a result. He said the bar owners admitted to breaking the law when they advertised that their outlets would stay open till well after 1a.m.

Independent companies DGS, Masters of Sound and Mediterranean Technical Services Ltd were called in to test the noise level and it resulted that this reached 110 decibels when the recommended noise level when sleeping was 33 decibels or less, he said in the protest.

The hotel was being given negative reviews on the internet and agencies stopped sending clients because of the noise.

Mr Dougall asked the court to declare that the bar owners were breaking the law and made to pay compensation for the problems caused and loss of business suffered by the hotel.

The protest was signed by lawyers Ian and Mark Refalo.
