A call for application for fire marshals at Mater Dei Hospital will be issued in the coming days, following directives issued by the General Workers’ Union.

On Monday, the union ordered 16 workers within the fire section at the hospital to halt training within the scheme Train the Trainers, and not to carry out civil and preventive inspections.

GWU said it had been waiting for months for the promised call for applications.

The union was calling to set up one grade – fire marshals – for all 16 workers.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Health said the call will be issued in the coming days, while sources told this newspaper it will be by the end of next week.
