There have been about 400 more admissions to Mater Dei Hospital this winter than in the same period last year, with about 300 referred by consultants and a lot of them presenting with pneumonia.

Answering PQs by shadow health minister Claudette Buttigieg, Parliamentary Secretary for Health Chris Fearne said 8,082 admissions had been recorded this January, more than the 7,675 in January last year. This translated to an average of 300 admissions a day.
