Ever since I started to take an interest in Maltese politics at the age of nine (and I am now in my late 60s), I have refused to believe that politics have to be dirty or that what the parties do to help their country is all white or all black.

With that in mind I can only congratulate newly-elected PN deputy leader Simon Busuttil on his success and wish him a career based on facts and truth instead of vote-hunting (not necessarily vote-catching) slurs.

Unfortunately, he has already slipped up in his first few days as deputy leader, calling his Labour opposite numbers, Anġlu Farrugia and Toni Abela, “dinosaurs for what they... represent”.

Is that how Busuttil addresses the European Parliament? Or does he see his political opponents in Malta as lesser mortals than their European counterparts?
