“It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt”. This Quote of the Day (February 13) was attributed to US author Mark Twain.

This quote of the day could not have been more befittingly printed than on the day when Labour MP Glenn Bedingfield was quoted as calling for Daphne Caruana Galizia’s memorial to be placed “out of sight and mind”. Bedingfield, a good friend of Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, seems to excel at passing nasty remarks against those who are not his ilk.

I can assure him it is not only Caruana Galizia’s family and close friends who are missing her after someone decided to shut her up. Even those who tried to make us believe they did not like her used to follow her blog closely as she was the only one who had enough courage to call black what was black and to divulge what certain top people wanted to hide from the electorate.

I am sure there are quite a few who, like Bedingfield, want her memorial out of sight and, possibly, out of mind because their conscience is not letting them sleep peacefully.

Caruana Galizia caused many people to be uneasy because she told the truth; a truth, which to us, ordinary citizens, unfortunately, is being hidden, erased or cheekily covered in black.

Bedingfield is against anyone who in some way or another criticises the Labour government because he is one of those making hay while the sun shines... like many others.

He also favours the Maltese taxpayer funding astronomically high salaries (or having unnecessary new posts of people of trust) to please buddies whose only credentials seem to be that they are Labour supporters.

The list of scandals surrounding us (and making us believe they are being investigated) is far too long to name.

Let us hope and pray that, come next election, Malta will have more serious members of Parliament representing us.
