Norman Briffa, MBChB, MD, FRCS (CTh), consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and reader in cardiac surgery at the University of Sheffield, has been awarded an honorary Fellowship without Examination of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in recognition of his work developing an exam for Cardiothoracic Surgical Care Practitioners.
This exam has been developed in conjunction with the new Faculty in Perioperative Practice at the College in Edinburgh. Mr Briffa attended St Aloysius’ College and qualified in Medicine at the University of Sheffield in 1983.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was awarded a Doctorate from the University of Sheffield for his pioneering research work carried out at Stanford University in California, US.
Mr Briffa is also the current president of the British Heart Valve Society. He is the son of Dr Paul Briffa and the late Doris Briffa of Valletta.
