The first issue of Homeworks, out with The Sunday Times tomorrow, this year is all about the synthesis of old and new. The three homes featured highlight old backdrops with new furnishings and vice versa, illustrating the advantages Malta holds in terms of striking historic architecture and furniture pieces. The design and rehabilitation of the first home featured – a 17th century Valletta palazzo – were based on the two fundamental conservation principles: minimal intervention and clearly distinguishable additions. Interior designer Sandy Bonnici creates another functional space, mixing old and new to give a classical contemporary, yet highly convenient, open-plan flat. A warm, contemporary apartment, against the backdrop of old and beautiful Vittoriosa, is brought to Homeworks by interior designer Aldo Cutajar.
