Jonathan Caruana and Edward Herrara were back in the national team fold yesterday as Malta coach Pietro Ghedin finalised his 18-man squad for tomorrow’s World Cup qualifier against Armenia at Ta’ Qali.

Caruana played no part in last month’s friendly against San Marino as he was nursing an abdomen injury. But the Valletta defender has returned to action for his club since then and Ghedin immediately drafted him into his squad.

Herrera also skipped the 3-2 win in Serravalle as last month he was involved in a protracted transfer move away from Hibs before joining Birkirkara.

The 24-year-old made the squad despite his limited pre-season preparation.

Birkirkara midfielder Paul Fenech and John Mintoff, the Sliema Wanderers winger, failed to make the cut but Hibs defender Ryan Camilleri, who made his debut against San Marino, retained his place in the squad.
