A 33-year-old Hungarian was yesterday jailed for seven-and-a-half years after he admitted to importing heroin in capsules which he had swallowed.

Patrik Reinis arrived on an Air Malta flight from Brussels in June, 2008.

He was carrying 31 capsules containing 301.87 grams of the drug worth some €13,886.

In proceedings yesterday he decided to admit to conspiring to traffic, importing and possession of heroin in circumstances which denote it was not for his exclusive use, instead of standing trial by jury.

Mr Justice Michael Mallia jailed him for seven years and six months and fined him €23,000.
