Prison inmates due for release would be given assistance in applying for social benefits through a new support group, Social Solidarity Minister Michael Farrugia said.

The programme will see two government officials visit Corradino Correctional Facility for three hours every week to meet inmates and facilitate the process of obtaining support for them after they have served their time.

Dr Farrugia said the ministry would be setting up a one-stop shop for former inmates. There would be branches in various localities in a bid to help former inmates reintegrate into society without wasting time visiting different government departments.
