The health authorities have warned against consuming a Chinese slimming tea that contains sibutramine, a banned substance that increases the risk of stroke or heart attacks.

The product, Fast Acting Herbal Slimming Tea, forms part of the Paiyouji Plus brand.

Medicinal products with sibutramine were withdrawn from the market in 2010 after evidence revealed that it can have adverse cardiac effects.
