The evergreen Caesar salad carries the first name of the Italian restaurateur who had first come up with the dish and a newly-opened trattoria in Sliema takes his surname, Cardini.

The salad is a signature item on the Trattoria Cardini menu, along with other items aimed primarily at the health-conscious, who work out and watch what they eat, with emphasis on fresh local products, including fish.

An à la carte menu of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine is served at lunch and dinner seven days a week, apart from a snack menu available at lunch and in the afternoon. Specials according to guests’ preferences are also offered.

Situated on Tower Road, opposite Il-Fortizza, Trattoria Cardini boasts 170 covers, 40 on the outdoor terrace, in a 200-square-metre open-plan layout that bears the design input of Pippa Toledo.

The owners, architect Joseph Bondin and his wife Nathalie, were looking for a second outlet in the northern part of the island to complement their first restaurant, Don Berto, at the Vittoriosa Waterfront, when they were offered the opportunity to acquire the former Marianna’s Tex Mex.
