A selection from the Maltese national swimming squad competed in the CIJ International Meet in Luxembourg last weekend.

Julian Harding left his mark on the meet as, apart from winning three individual medals, he also secured a spot in the 2015 Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE), behind held in Iceland next month.

Harding won a gold medal in the 100 metres breaststroke and a silver in the 50m. He added another silver medal in the 100m butterfly, posting a time of 56.96 seconds which was inside the Minimum Qualifying Standard set by the Maltese Olympic Committee for qualification to the 2015 GSSE.

The up-and-coming Francesca Falzon Young set a new age-group C record of 1:01.06 on her way to winning a silver medal in the 100m freestyle.

Matthew Galea took silver in the 200m freestyle while Amy Micallef secured a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke

Michael Umnov helped himself to three medals after taking silver in the 400m individual medley and bronze in the 200 fly and IM.

Umnov then teamed up with Falzon Young, Harding and Micallef to win a silver medal in the 4x50m freestyle mixed relay.

The other medal was won by Neil Muscat, Harding, Micallef and Falzon Young who finished second in the 4x40 mixed medley relay.

The Maltese swimmers were led by national coach Andy Colbourn.
