HSBC Bank yesterday confirmed that it lost information belonging to a number of clients.

The bank did not say how many clients were involved and what type of information was lost but a spokesman said no account details were involved and those affected had been informed.

A spokesman said the data was in printed form and this was not a case of hacking.

The bank is now carrying out an internal investigation to determine what happened.

The incident happened a few days ago and a number of bank employees are being questioned on the matter.

“Precautionary measures have been put into place as a safeguard and the bank will ensure that no client suffers a financial loss as a result of this incident,” the spokesman said.

The bank said it was not in a position to give further details in light of the investigation.
