It’s upbeat, breezy, funky and has summer written all over it. It’s a song called Red Hot Money, the debut single from Gypsy Genes.

Although the band has only been around for a few months, and the song just weeks old, the feedback they’ve been getting has been great, boding well for the single to be one of this summer’s most popular tunes.

The band has come up with a fresh and funky electro-pop dance vibe that is fully embodied in Red Hot Money’s energy and melody.

“We’ve also just released a rather unusual video to go with the song, which is all about betrayal and lust for money,” the band commented.

Gypsy Genes’ line-up has been culled from members of some of the foremost bands on the Maltese music scene. In fact, apart from former Winter Moods drummer James Vella, the band also includes Chris Xuereb (Cruz), David Torreggiani (Scar/Elderwater) and Mark Kram (Fakawi) as well as British/Maltese vocalist Rikki Lee, who is relatively new to the local scene but whose voice gives the song that necessary sing-along melodic punch.
