A man who spends his life in the gym yesterday admitted breaking down his girlfriend’s front door during an argument and harassing her on Sunday morning.

Renald Haymen, 32, from Senglea, said simply “gym” when asked what he did in life.

Asked specifically what he did for a living he again said “gym” before adding that he was unemployed.

During the arraignment yesterday, Mr Haymen admitted causing damage to the door, threatening his girlfriend, disobeying police orders and harassing her. Defence lawyer Lucio Sciriha told Magistrate Giovanni Grixti that his client had been on the straight and narrow for the past few months but every time he touched alcohol he lost the plot.

He asked the court to place his client on probation to ensure any progress made in the last few months was not lost and to make sure that similar incidents did not happen again.

Police Inspector Robert Said Sarreo said that imprisoning Mr Haymen was not ideal and would definitely not help him.

Magistrate Grixti postponed sentencing for this morning.
