I followed the debate – or “farce” – on the Prime Minister’s motion of confidence.

There was no need for that motion- Eddy Privitera, Mosta

I added the word “farce” for the simple reason that there was no need for that motion at all. Why?

Lawrence Gonzi was aware that all his parliamentary colleagues knew that if anyone of them voted against the motion, he/she or they would be committing political hara-kiri. It was quite obvious that this was the scenario in which Dr Gonzi got the vote.

If the Prime Minister wants to be certain that he enjoys his parliamentary group’s total support, he should now ask them the same question at a parliamentary group meeting. And give them the chance to express their position in a secret vote.
