A new educational initiative is being piloted by St Martin’s College, Swatar, during the Easter holidays in Malta – group revision tutoring courses run jointly with Creative Education, one of the UK’s largest providers of training and education courses. The courses are open to all ‘O’ level, Intermediate and ‘A’ level students in Malta.

A revision course is a structured and intensive way of helping students apply their knowledge for their final exams.

It helps students focus their energies on what they need to do rather than simply re reading notes.

Similar courses have been run in Britain for several years and have a high success rate in helping students achieve higher grades in their exams.

In group tutoring students are taught in small groups – typically between six and 10, depending on the subject. The tutors make important and creative links and connections between the subject and the world, enabling the students to gain an overview of the subject and see the various parts in context. This ensures they get a real in-depth understanding of a subject, consolidate knowledge and apply it to the exam.

The students are also taught effective study techniques they can use for the rest of their revision time before the exam.

Students can choose from English, Pure Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Marketing and Systems of Knowledge at Intermediate and ‘A’ level, and English, Maths and Maltese courses for ‘O’ level.

Each course runs for 18 hours over three days covering one subject area. Each course costs €260.

Students can take one or two courses, depending on where they feel they need most help.
