GreenPak Coop Society, which runs the largest waste recovery system in Malta, is extending its daily glass bottle collection to Paceville catering outlets. The glass bottle collection runs early morning at 1am from bars and restaurants along the promenade of Gzira, Sliema and St Julian’s, and now in Paceville. The collection truck starts from Manoel Island, through The Strand, Qui-si-Sana, Tower Road, Balluta Bay, Spinola Hill and continues its route around Paceville’s busy commercial areas.

The Paceville route includes Dobbie Street, Gort Street, Dragonara Road, Church Street, Paceville Avenue, Ross Street, Salvu Privitera Street, Schrieiber Street, St Andrew’s Road, St Augustine Street, Wilġa Street and St George’s Bay.

“GreenPak’s early morning glass collection service has been running uninterruptedly and free since 2016, ensuring a more environmentally friendly waste disposal strategy for these bars and catering establishments. The service collected 35,200 kilos of glass bottles to date,” said Daniel Tabone, operations manager at GreenPak Coop Society.

“During the busier summer months, catering outlets produce a larger volume of empty glass bottles, from these localities. Apart from diverting such amounts from landfills, we  ensure the least possible noise pollution and traffic conjestion, the least business interruption and tidier environments in and around workplaces,” Mr Tabone added.

Held in collaboration with the local councils of Sliema, Gżira and St Julian’s and the Cleaning Services Department, the free service collects empty glass bottles and glass jars. This dedicated service runs daily at 1am, including Sundays, until  October 1. From October 6, the service will continue on weekends at the same time.

In addition, GreenPak Cooperative Society also runs the monthly service of its door-to-door glass collection from households and commercial outlets on the first Friday of the month. In Gozo, the same glass collection service is operated every first Thursday of the month.
