The case against a grandfather accused of showing his two young grandsons pornographic movies collapsed after the boys’ testimony proved inconclusive and their father renounced criminal charges against him.

Social workers’ suspicions were aroused when, during a visit to government agency Appoġġ two years ago, the boys, then aged six and seven, started to kiss each other on the lips.

This took place during a supervised visit with their mother, as their father had full custody.

One boy told the social workers he would tell his brother to pretend to be a girl and he would kiss him and undress.

He said he had watched these things on videos shown to them by their grandfather.

The 59-year-old, who is not being named to protect the identity of his grandchildren, was charged with corruption of minors in November 2012.

When they gave testimony, however, the seven-year-old said they watched action films with their grandfather and if he saw something inappropriate on TV he immediately switched channels.

The six-year-old said he had seen gory films that consisted of blood and worms coming out of people. Magistrate Audrey Demicoli noted that films taken from the grandfather’s house were not phonographic although still adult.

She said the boys’ testimony was inconclusive and evasive, and while they said they watched gory scenes they did not describe watching anything sexual.

She also noted that the son of the accused, the boys’ father, had renounced criminal action against him. She declared the proceedings extinguished.
