Former Maltasong chairman Grace Borg was appointed director on the Malta Enterprise board because of her “very good business acumen”, according to the Economy Minister Chris Cardona.

Her appointment was announced in last Friday’s edition of the Government Gazette following the resignation of David Marinelli on February 7, whose stint on the board lasted eight months.

Probed about Ms Borg’s appointment, the economy minister said that her “energy and enthusiasm” as well as her business acumen would be an asset for the board.

Dr Cardona said he was not in a position to divulge the details of Ms Borg’s remuneration package, saying he did not have such details in hand at the time. Questions sent by this newspaper to the ministry’s spokesman were not answered by the time of going to print.

The minister said that Mr Marinelli, who is also the CEO of Portman International, had stepped down for pers-onal reasons.

Ms Borg who runs her own business is well known in the local music industry both for her role as promoter as well as for her stint at the helm of Maltasong board, which ended controversially in October 2005.

Back then Ms Borg had said she could no longer work with the ‘clique’ of then Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech.

Two years ago, her attempt to venture into politics barely lasted 24 hours after she decided to revoke her decision to contest the general election on the Labour ticket.

In a statement, Ms Borg said she was retracting her candidature claiming she “never expected the level of hatred towards those ready to give their service to the country”.
