I refer to the article Cost-Effective Travel For Gozitan Students and would like to remind the public that there already is an electronic student card available for any person that travels regularly in Malta or even between Gozo and Malta.

In fact, the student card entitles holders to discounted rates and is available for anyone who is aged between 11 and 16 and also anyone else who is attending a full-time course of at least three months with an approved training institution.

The rates are €21 for a 30-day card and €60 for a 90-day card, both of which cover unlimited travel in Malta.

Furthermore, if the card holder is a Gozitan resident, the student card includes unlimited travel in Malta and Gozo.

Therefore, if a Gozitan student travels from Gozo to the University every day using a 30-day card, it works out at just €1 per day for the return trip.

If the student travels just twice a week, it works out at €2.63 per day, which is cheaper than buying a day ticket in Gozo and one in Malta and is also cheaper than what used to be paid before the bus reform was implemented in July 2011.

Further details on these cards can be obtained from Arriva Malta’s website.
