Gozitan shores were transformed into the “closest thing to a skate park next to the beach” for three young men who visited Malta to “ride one of the oldest and most unique spots in the world”.
As part of its BMX Dirt series, which every week features a different spot from around the world, Red Bull saw bikers Sergio Layos, Ben Hennon, and Lima Eltham off to Gozo to ride its naturally eroded cliffs.
Dirt jumping refers to riding bikes over mounds of dirt or soil to become airborne for a few seconds.
It is similar to BMX or mountain bike racing but the jumps are usually much higher and the ultimate aim is performing the best tricks.
On Red Bull’s BMX Dirt blog, George Marshall notes that “as a freak of nature, one section of cliffs beside the Mediterranean ocean has naturally eroded into a very unique but bizarre skate park of perfect and less perfect transitions”.
He snapped pictures of the three young men who used their bikes to ride the shores during the day and prop up their tents and camp on the rocky beaches, alongside salt pans and fishermen, at night.
