On Gozo we are justly proud of the brilliantly restored Citadel. However, nobody seems to be aware that there is a brand new theatre as part of the complex.

This little theatre, a first for Gozo, I believe, opens on the weekend of October 22. The first play to be staged there has been specially written for the occasion by local author Revel Barker and will have a Gozitan cast from the Gozo Creative Theatre Club.

It is based on a local subject (with global renown) – St Paul’s shipwreck and the conversion of the Maltese islands to become the world’s first Christian country.

Yet, nobody is aware of it (the theatre), apart from the lucky few in the ‘in-crowd’ who have managed to secure tickets for the opening night.

It seems drama on Gozo (other than the opera) is being kept under wraps. Shame.
