Mġarr road in Gozo turned the island into a “centre of shame” as the area looks like a warzone, Labour spokesman for Gozo Anton Refalo has said.

He said that five years ago Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi inaugurated two roads in Gozo – one leading from Mġarr to Victoria and the other from Victoria to San Lawrenz.

Back then, Dr Gonzi said these were to be links in a chain of roads that would turn the area into a “centre of excellence.”

However, Dr Refalo said, the roads remained mere links since the chain was never completed despite the large amount of money spent.

To add insult to injury, he said, the entrance into Victoria – where works were going on – was welcoming tourists with a smell of drainage.
