Teatru Astra’s opera production Norma, held twice last month, will be featured on Canale 5’s only opera and music review television programme, Loggione, showing today at 8.45 a.m.

Scenes from the opera, filmed by a four-strong television crew who came specifically to Gozo for the event, will be broadcast together with a commentary and review by musicologist and programme presenter Vittorio Testa. Gozo will also feature prominently as the crew toured the island and filmed in several locations.

Enrico Stinchelli brought digital scenography for the first time to local opera productions

Loggione, now in its eighth edition, features selected opera productions and concerts, together with interviews with the main artistes and music or stage directors. Important appointments this season are those dedicated to opera from the Teatro Antico in Taormina, those from the Sferisterio Opera Festival in Macerata, and those of the Arena in Verona.

The Italian crew was brought over to Malta by Teatru Astra in strong collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority.

Norma opened the 10th edition of Festival Mediterranea, which ran from October 27 until November 19. An international cast of high repute was engaged, led by soprano Dimitra Theodossiou in the title role.

Enrico Stinchelli’s artistic direction brought digital scenography for the first time to local opera productions and was enthusiastically received by local and foreign audiences.

The positive feedback was such that Mr Stinchelli will be again entrusted with the production of Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, which will open the 11th edition of Festival Mediterranea in 2012 on October 25 and 27.
